Frequently asked questions
How is my exact age calculated?
It counts the full years from your date of birth, then the remaining whole months, then the leftover days — the same way you'd say someone is '34 years, 2 months, and 9 days' old. Leap years and different month lengths are handled correctly.
Can I calculate my age on a past or future date?
Yes. The second field defaults to today, but you can set any date to see how old you were (or will be) then — useful for eligibility dates, anniversaries, or paperwork.
What else does it show besides years, months, and days?
Total days, weeks, and months you've lived, how many days until your next birthday, and the day of the week you were born on.
Is my date of birth uploaded to a server?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — the dates you enter never leave your device and nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
Which browsers are supported?
We recommend the latest Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Tools require a modern browser with JavaScript enabled.
Calculate your age online — free and private
Working out an exact age by hand is surprisingly fiddly — months have different lengths, leap years add a day, and it's easy to be off by one. This calculator does it instantly: type a date of birth and you get the precise age in years, months, and days, along with a handful of extra figures people often want. Everything is worked out in your browser, so the dates you enter never leave your device.
A date of birth is personal information, and there's no reason to send it anywhere just to count the days. Here nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored — the numbers appear the moment you type, and they're gone when you close the tab.
How exact age is calculated
The everyday way to state an age is "X years, Y months, and Z days." To get there, the tool counts the complete years from the birth date up to the target date, then the remaining whole months, then the leftover days. When the day of the month hasn't been reached yet, it borrows the correct number of days from the previous month — which is why the answer stays right across February, 30-day months, and 31-day months alike.
Leap years are handled automatically. Someone born on 29 February simply has their birthday counted on the correct date each year, and in non-leap years the next-birthday figure rolls to the following valid day. All the date maths is done in UTC so a daylight-saving change can never add or drop a day.
What you get
Beyond the exact years-months-days figure, the calculator shows several useful totals at once:
- Total days, weeks, and months you've lived.
- How many days until your next birthday.
- The day of the week you were born on.
Because it updates live, you can change the date and watch every figure recalculate instantly — no button to press.
Age on any date, not just today
The second field defaults to today, but you can set it to any date. That makes it easy to answer questions like "how old will I be on this date next year?" or "how old was I when this happened?" — handy for eligibility cut-offs, anniversaries, retirement dates, and filling in forms that ask for age as of a specific day.
Everyday uses
Checking an exact age for a form or application. Counting down to a birthday. Working out a pet's age in days. Seeing how many weeks a baby is. Settling a "how old are they really" debate. Once the dates are in, all of these take a second. If you also work with percentages or health numbers, the Percentage Calculator and BMI Calculator run the same way — instantly and entirely in your browser.
Works on your phone
The calculator is built mobile-first and runs in your phone's browser with nothing to install. The date fields use your phone's native date picker, so choosing a birthday is a couple of taps, and the results appear right below without any scrolling.
Privacy: your dates never leave your device
Every figure is calculated locally in your browser. Your date of birth is never uploaded, never stored on a server, and there's no account to create. When you close the page the numbers are gone, because they were never sent anywhere in the first place.
